Lucy’s Bunny
January 5th, 2008 by Sharon
A few weeks before Christmas, Lucy’s bunny fell out of her stroller while she was out with Betty (her babysitter.) Although her bunny normally stayed in her crib, I didn’t think too much of it. She woke up 5 or 6 times that night, but I still didn’t make the connection – I thought she was still too young to be so attached to a stuffed animal. After she woke up as many times the next night, I decided that we needed the bunny. I had no idea where it might have been lost, and didn’t want to bother Betty on a weekend, so I started searching the web. Pottery Barn Kids had the bunny, but it looked a bit bigger than the original. I ordered it anyway, because I figured it was probably the same. Of course, we’d have to wait a week to receive it.
After another sleepless night I got on eBay. I found the bunny, and even convinced the seller to end the auction early. I couldn’t convince her to send it faster than priority mail though, so I decided to put up some signs around the neighborhood. I talked to Betty, and found out where they had walked. I put up about 6 “Lost Pink Bunny” signs, but didn’t hold out much hope since they had been to Park St.
The next morning, I got a phone call about the bunny. Our neighbor had found it. Apparently, everyone in our neighborhood had seen the bunny, which had been set on a fence about 100 ft from our house. Lucy was ecstatic. She wouldn’t let go of the bunny (which had been outside for 5 days,) and I had to wash it during her nap. The following day, we received both the pottery barn bunny, which was about 3 ft tall, and the eBay bunny – now our spare. She actually loves the giant bunny just as much, but it doesn’t reside in her crib.
Without knowing this story, our good friends Jenn and Toby gave Lucy a book called “Knuffle Bunny” for Christmas. The story is very cute, and about a little girl who loses her bunny. Although Lucy is still more interested in eating and destroying books than in reading them, we’re sure this will become a favorite!
